Check Out The Big Bang Referee - New Hublot’s Wear OS For Russia World Cup 2018 Referees

This year's (2018) edition of World Cup is drawing near and Hublot is the official timekeeper this time. This means that every electronic gadget that will be used to measure and keep time throughout the event will be manufactured by Hublot electronics. So in respect to the new partnership between the company and the world governing football body, FIFA, Hublot has developed a special edition watch for the football tournament and calls it The Big Bang Referee.

The Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia runs Wear OS and has the same Intel Atom Z34XX processor that powers 2017’s Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45. (Hublot and Tag Heuer are both owned by the LVMH conglomerate.)

The smart wear has some pretty fancy touches and features like a 35.4mm watch face, 400 x 400 AMOLED screen, Bluetooth 4.1, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and electronically powered by a 410mAh battery.

This watch is so specially made that the production had to be limited to only 2,018 pieces only at a price tag of $5,200 and also has a wide assortment of World Cup-themed software.

It is already at test run with a display of the countdown to this year's 2018 world cup tournament which is scheduled to take place in Russia between 14 June 2018 – 15 July 2018.

The Big Bang Referee will perform some simple task like

1.   Gives you a notification once the games begin.

2.   You can also get notifications of match start times, live match stats

3.   Naturally, the watch vibrates and shows the word “GOAL” whenever a goal is scored.

A special version of this smartwatch will be worn by the officiating referees in the tournament to interface with the goal-line technology (goal-line technology is the use of electronic aid to determine if a goal has been scored or not).

In football matches that already use goal-line technology, referees use more basic watches to get notified when a goal has been recognized by the automatic system, but now, apparently, they’ll have all the features of the Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia to keep them entertained during lulls in the action.

A version of this watch was already “tested discreetly” by some referees during a couple of FIFA competitions in 2017, so hopefully, all the technology kinks have been worked out.
