Ubuntu Gets Second Update With Ubuntu 17.10.1 After First one Fails to Boot — Download ISO Files And Torrents For All Official Flavors

It was quite an unfortunate and unfortunate experience last week for some or most Ubuntu users as what intended to patch and fix the recent Meltdown and Spectre processor flaws turned out to render the computers of most Ubuntu users unbootable after they applied the patch.
Ubuntu 17.10.1 Meltdown and Spectre patch update

However, I highly commend the efforts of Canonical towards their prompt response to mitigate the issue. Ubuntu users have confirmed that the second update to the 4.4.0-109 Linux kernel image resolves the freezing issue. Canonical, the makers of Ubuntu Linux distro, has re-released its Meltdown update for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial users after the first attempt tripped up.

Now the updated and fixed Ubuntu Artful Aardvark distro is here in the form of Ubuntu 17.10.1 and it comes with the intended fixes for the BIOS (PC not booting after applying the patch) issue. The issue was tracked down to Intel Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) kernel module.

However, it is worth mentioning according to Lubuntu, that this release does not fix your machines Meltdown and Spectre flaws. There aren't any changes or additions to this Ubuntu release compared the official Ubuntu 17.10 that was released about 2 months agoTherefore users are advised to install the updates right after the installation. The Meltdown KPTI patches can be availed by installing Ubuntu kernel Other kernels with patches have also been released, so do check them out as per your requirement.

The ISO and torrent images of Artful Aardvark for desktop and server edition are available for download. Unfortunately, the updates are for 64-bit architectures as Canonical has already killed support for 32-bit architectures.

Also note that the images for official Ubuntu flavors, including Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu Studio, and Ubuntu Budgie, are available for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions on the same page.
