Google is Working on a Simple Video Calling App

The search engine giant not long after releasing the premium Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL have already revealed that they are working on a Simple Video Calling App. The app will allow users to make video calling with their contacts straight from their contacts app, without the need or use of any third-party app like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, etc. Besides your default phone contacts app, Google simple video calling app will also work with Android Messages and call/dialer apps.

As seen in the GIF here, and in the screenshot above, the integration is tight and real st it gets. You will be presented with an option to start a video, as presented in the same list of options where you’d call or text a contact. To make it more enticing, Google says it will later add a function/option that allows users to switch or upgrade an on-going voice call to video with just a single tap.

The video calling will be routed through your ISP/carrier’s VLTE service (Video over LTE) service. But for users who are not on VLTE,  Google will link their call through its Duo app provided the caller and receiver have Google Duo both installed in their smartphones.

As usual and expected, the integrated video calling feature is already rolling out to Google's newest Pixel, Pixel 2, Android One, and Nexus phones. Google is working with carriers to make the feature available on other Android devices, but the mountain view tech giant company hasn’t given a specific timeline.
