iPhone 8 Will Virtually Guide Its Users Through Augmented Reality

There's been several sightings and rumors of Apple's upcoming smartphone which is iPhone 8. But this time, it is rumored that the company's much-anticipated iPhone 8 will have the ability to guide users through augmented reality, superimposing directions onto the real world through a user's smartphone. This development was discovered by Felix Lapalme, an iOS developer based in MontrĂ©al. He discovered a 3D virtual arrowhead buried within the beta version of Apple's latest operating system.

iPhone 8, which is expected to come with Apple's iOS 11, could let users to view an enhanced world through their smartphone camera for maps and directions. When that happens, iPhones can be used to guide users around towns and cities with augmented reality.

Lapalme also found a function in a code for the camera, which included a "switch to AR mode" function for the arrow.

Apple is placing its bets on augmented reality apps, with chief executive Tim Cook pushing the idea ahead of virtual reality in the company's products.

Apple debuted AR Kit, its augmented reality platform, at its global developer's conference in June, where it also revealed plans for iOS 11 and the HomePod smart speaker.

AR Kit would allow users to impose virtual objects over the real world through the camera of an iPhone or iPad.

Other smartphone brands have pushed virtual reality for their phones, such as Samsung's Gear VR headsets, which have been around since 2015.

Google has been making steps to bring augmented reality to its Pixel smartphone. It's "Tango" augmented reality platform already has mapping functions, such as the Lumen app, developed for museums to guide users.

The new augmented reality maps could appear on the iPhone 8, which is expected to be released in early September.

The iPhone 8 is anticipated to come with iOS 11 as well as new features such as wireless charging, facial recognition, an edge-to-edge display and - for the first time - no home button.
